SUMMARY:Chiricahua National Monument Hiking\, Carcamping\, Stargazing
DESCRIPTION:Join us on a trip to the Chiricahua National Monument\, also known as the “Wonderland of Rocks\,” located in southeastern Arizona. We’ll leave Tempe at 8:00 a.m.\, set up camp\, and explore the area in the afternoon. The area is ideal for wildlife observation\, with populations of a wide variety of animals\, such as the rare Mexican spotted owl\, turkeys\, foxes\, and coatis. The Chiricahua Mountains are also renowned as stargazing location and home to some of the world’s largest telescopes. Since our trip is shortly after the new moon\, we will experience spectacularly dark night skies. SUMMARY:Fossil Springs Day Hike
DESCRIPTION:This trip will be a day hike to one of Arizona’s coolest spots. We’ll hike the Bob Bear Trail down to Fossil Springs\, where bright blue water flows through caves\, waterfalls\, and swimming holes. The hike is 8–9 miles round trip with ~1\,500–2\,000 ft of elevation gain and is moderate to difficult\, especially on the way back out. We’ll spend time swimming\, cliff jumping\, and exploring. The water is refreshing but pretty cold\, even on warm days. Be sure to bring plenty of water and sunscreen. After the hike\, we’ll stop in town for ice cream before heading home.
