SUMMARY:The Alaskan School Bus Voyage / World Road Trip
DESCRIPTION:Guys I finally went and bought the school bus!!!! \nI quit my job this morning and we will be leaving at 9:00pm tonight after the meeting. \n  \nBaseline Rules: \n\n15 people each with a role on the bus (repair\, navigation\, meals\, side quests\, documenter\, etc) \nNo technology allowed on the bus \n\nNo phones or smart devices of any kind\, no digital navigation\, no game consoles\, no TV’s \nOnly safety communicators like sat phones and radios\, select music is also allowed \n\nLocal communications suite: powerful CB radio on the bus and small handheld communicators for members\nTied into a custom build LoRa mesh network for P2P communication\nTarget 30 mile range for handhelds \nOnly analog music such as records\, tapes\, and maybe CD’s\n\n\n\n\nThe bus needs to be a piece of shit that breaks down\, otherwise this trip is too straight forward \n\nIf nothing goes wrong it’s not an adventure!\n\n\nType C school bus holds 42 adults 35-40ft \n\nConverting 3/4 of the bus to living with things like a kitchen\, bathroom\, shower\, beds\n\nCould save lots of space and take more people if committed to camping outside \n\n\nLeaves us with a crew of 10-15 people \nCan take more people by only building ~6 bunk beds and having people rotate for camping outside \n\n\nBudget $1K / month\n\n  \nRoute Map\n  \nItinerary: \nDrive to Alaska (April 1st – April 12th\, 66 hours driving) \nWe will Drive up through Colorado\, Yellowstone and Banff on the way \n  \nAlaska Exploring (April 12 – 24) \nWe will offroad to Wrangler St. Elias National Park and do a quick winter summit of Denali \n  \nAlaska Offroad (April 25 – May 1st) (500 mi) \nBefore we will stock up on a bunch of food and gas tanks in Fairbanks before the offroad stretch. \nWe will offroad leaving the town of Manley Hot Springs and crossing the Bering Strait (it doesn’t melt until late May!!!) \n  \nOffroad in Russia to Magadan (May 1st – May 10) (1500mi) \nGet to China (May 10 – May 20th) and illegally cross border \nMake sure to get your fake New Zealand passports and start working on your accent! \n  \nExploration: \nMay 20th – June 5th China (40 hours to cross country) \nJune 5th – June 20th Singapore and Southeast Asia (80 hour detour) \nJune 20th – June 27th Cross Myanmar and Bangladesh (60 hours) \nJune 27th – July 30th India (100 hours driving) Get Waffles \nJuly 30th – August 20th Nepal and Himalayas with Everest and K2 Summit \nAugust 20th – August 30th Cross Middle East to Get to Greece (65 hours to cross) \nSeptember 1st to September 20th Central Europe and Alps on Way to Norway (65 hours to cross) \nSeptember 20- October 1st Norway Backpacking \nOctober 1st – October 20 Explore West Europe then catch Ferry at Straight of Gibraltar \nOctober 20 – February 20th Explore Africa with Kilimanjaro Summit (380 hour round trip) \nFebruary 20th – February 28th Cross Straight of Gibraltar and Alps Skiing \nMarch 1st – March 20th More Europe Exploration \nMarch 20th – April 20th Cross Russia Back to Magadan \nApril 20th – May 10th Recross Bearing Straight \nMay 10th – June 10th See Everything in Alaska we missed the first time \nJune 10th – July 20th Canadian and US west coast \nJuly 21st Return to Tempe \n  \nFor insurance reasons we will take 15 people.
