SUMMARY:Cave Creek Canyon
DESCRIPTION:Trip Overview\nCome explore a hidden gem in southern Arizona’s Chiricahua Mountains. We’ll depart Friday and car camp for two nights\, with a full day of hiking on Saturday and a shorter hike Sunday morning. This remarkable area features an incredible range of landscapes—from lush canyon forests framed by red rock cliffs to pine-covered mountains\, open grasslands\, and desert terrain. We’ll experience it all on this trip. \n  \nFriday\nThe early group will leave at 9:00 am\, drive the 4 hours to Cave Creek Canyon\, and set up camp. If 9:00 is too early\, other cars are free to leave later in the day. We will meet at 4:30 pm at the visitor center for a flat\, 3-4-mile walk to the main viewpoints in the canyon. \n  \nFriday Evening Walk \nSaturday\nWe will start hiking at 9:00 am and hike Silver Peak. This will be a hard 12-mile-long hike with 3\,000 feet of elevation gain. While there is a lot of elevation gain\, it is all gradual. \nThen\, after the hike\, we will go to the canyon overview for sunset \nSilver Peak Trail \nSunday\nWe will hike the South Fork Trail (5.6 miles\, 900 feet of elevation gain) from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm\, then head back to Tempe.
