SUMMARY:K2
DESCRIPTION:Join me on a beginner’s hike to the summit of K2! Located in the Pakistani Himalayas\, K2 is the 2nd tallest mountain in the world at 28\,251′! \nWe will meet at Trader Joe’s 5 am and leave for LA from there. Once reaching LA\, we will grab a raft from Walmart and cross the Pacific Ocean. We’ll stop for breakfast in the Philippines and continue on to the eastern coast of India. From there\, we will mount camels to the village of Askole\, where most start their trek to base camp. We’ll grab lunch here and start the short 100mi +19\,000′ hike to base camp. This takes most people about a week\, but\, I’m confident that we can do it in a few hours. Finally\, the push to the summit is a 6.2mi +10\,000′ hike that I’m confident we can do in 2 hours. After reaching the summit\, we will make our way back down to town before sunset. Finally\, we will push through the night and do everything in reverse to make it back to Tempe before classes on Wednesday. \nPlease bring hiking shoes for this one. Despite being a beginner’s hike some people on All Trails noted that this would be difficult in street shoes \n  \nSIGN UP

SUMMARY:Winter Humphreys
DESCRIPTION:Humphreys has gotten lots of snow in the last few weeks with 20″ on the peak and another 12″ on the way! This means that it’s time to reattempt the summit! Join us for a winter expedition to Arizona’s tallest peak! You will need microspikes to come. I also recommend snowshoes\, gaiters\, and waterproof boots. This will be an EXTREMELY difficult climb at 17mi with 7\,111ft of elevation gain! We will drive up to Flagstaff Saturday afternoon and camp the night. Sunday\, we will summit Humphrys and drive back to Tempe\, probably getting back very late. \nWe will be starting out on the Weatherford trail and splitting off a few miles before Freemont Saddle to continue off-trail to Freemont Peak and then Agassiz Peak and meeting back with the trail to avoid possible avalanche dangers. \n \n  \nRecommended Microspikes \nRecommended Snowshoes \nHumphreys Mountaineer’s Route \n  \nSIGN UP

SUMMARY:The Cave of the Bells
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an expedition into the Cave of the Bells south of Tuscon! This trip will be a continuation of the Mount Lemmon trip but you are welcome to join just for caving. I recommend driving down Saturday and joining us for camp but you can drive down Sunday and make a day trip out of it if you like. \nThe USFS limits the group size to 3-6 people. Everyone will need to sign a waiver. We will also have to pick up the keys from the Federal building in downtown Tuscon during business hours. We’ll pick up the keys before hiking Lemmon on Friday and drop them off before heading back on Monday. Only my car has to stay till Monday to drop the keys off. \nTo come you will need some gear: A caving/climbing helmet (we have 3 helmets in the gear locker)\, three sources of light with one source being a headlight attached to a helmet\, spare batteries for lights\, enough to replace your headlight at least twice while also having spare\nbatteries for the other lights\, elbow pads\, knee pads\, gloves (to protect the cave against oils on our hands)\, and water-resistant clothing (this cave is muddy). \n  \nSIGN UP (Please text me first at 720-595-4253)

SUMMARY:Mt Lemmon Backpacking
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a difficult hike up Mount Lemmon totaling 24 miles and 7\,500ft of elevation gain. This 9\,171′ mountain outside of Tuscon is one of the most biodiverse places on earth. As we hike up the mountain we will go through 5 separate ecological zones. We will split this into 2 days leaving Tempe on Friday at 11 am and hiking as far as we can (~7mi). Saturday we will finish hiking to the top (we can leave the heavy bags at camp) and return to the car (~17mi). It will be cold on the mountain so pack lots of layers! There isn’t a reliable water source past mile 2.5 so everyone will need to pack enough water for 2 days. There may be an active spring at the top\, but we shouldn’t rely on it. \nAdditionally\, we will be caving at the Cave of the Bells on Sunday. This is a separate trip limited by the USFS to 6 people. \n  \nSIGN UP
