SUMMARY:California Sand Dunes Backpacking & Stargazing
DESCRIPTION:We will be heading to the North Algodones Dunes Wilderness in California for an incredible backpacking trip in the dunes! We will camp on the sand and will go stargazing! Also we’re all gonna get milkshakes because that’s cool. It’s not a very long trek\, but it may be extra difficult because we will be trudging through the sand. We’ll likely have to carry extra weight for water and firewood (if we want to have a fire). \nDay 1 (Nov. 7):\n– Meet at the ASU Performing and Media Arts building (in the Trader Joe’s lot) in Tempe\n– Depart Tempe at 11AM\n– Visit Dateland to try their Date Milkshakes\n– Reach the sand dunes around 3:30PM (we want to arrive later in the day so we don’t scald our feet if we want to walk barefoot!)\n– Hike 2.5 miles across the sand dunes\n– Reach camp around 5PM and set up tents\n– Stargaze at night – it’ll almost be a new moon! \nDay 2 (Nov. 8):\n– Pack up camp (including campfire ash) and leave around 9AM\n– Hike 2.5 miles back to the cars\n– Get lunch somewhere\n– Head back to Tempe around 1PM\n– Reach Tempe by around 5PM \nTrip dates/details may be subject to change! \n🗺️ Location: North Algodones Dunes Wilderness\n🌄 Activity: Backpacking\n🏔️ Skill Level: Moderate\n📌 Total Miles: 5 miles (2.5/day)\n👥 Max People: 15 (hard cap)\n🗞️ Costs: Gas + milkshakes\n⛅ Weather: 90°F high\, 60°F low\n🧭 Meeting Place: ASU Performing and Media Arts building in Trader Joe’s lot\n🧳 What to Bring: Sunglasses\, sunscreen\, hat/headscarf\, extra socks (thank me later)\, camping mat\, sleeping bag\, tent\, LOTS of water\, snacks\, headlamp \nCHECK BACK LATER TO SIGN UP

SUMMARY:Baboquivari Peak
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a hike up southern Arizona’s most distinctive peak pronounced “bah-boh-kwa-VEE-ree“. Sticking up 1000 feet or more above the surrounding mountains\, with its characteristic pyramid-shaped peak\, it beckons the curious. On a clear day\, it can be seen from over 100 miles away. \nThis mountain is a sacred place to the Tohono Oʼodham people so please treat this sacred place with a little extra respect. The reservation is generous enough to let people climb it for a permit fee of $10/person. \nBaboquivari is a challenging 9.5 mile 4\,100ft climb with class 3 scrambling towards the top. To reach the very top the last 100ft is proper rope climbing rated 5.4. However we likely won’t be able to do this as we don’t have the proper gear or experience. However the end of the trail is where most people turn around anyways. DESCRIPTION:We will be going up to the Arizona Snowbowl Ski Resort for an unforgettable day of skiing and snowboarding! Arizona Snowbowl is an alpine ski and year-round recreation resort located 14 miles north of Flagstaff\, Arizona\, on the western slope of Mount Humphreys within the San Francisco Peaks. Operating since 1938\, it features a 9\,200-foot base elevation\, 2\,800 feet of total vertical rise\, 777 skiable acres\, and 61 trails\, as seen below: \n \n🗺️ Location: Snowbowl Ski Resort\, Flagstaff AZ \n🌐 Website: https://www.snowbowl.ski/ \n🌄 Activity: Skiing/Snowboarding \n👥 Max People: 20+ \n🧭 Meeting Place: ASU Performing and Media Arts Building (By the Trader Joe’s) \n🧳 What to Bring: Winter clothing\, gloves\, sunscreen\, plenty of water\, snacks\, and skiing/snowboarding gear (if not renting from Snowbowl) \n  \nInformation to Know: \n🏔️ Skill Level: Beginner – Expert (Everyone) \nThere are skiing and snowboarding options for all skill levels\, even first timers! When you buy a lift ticket\, Arizona Snowbowl offers FREE two-hour lessons for anyone without any prior experience\, so don’t feel intimidated if you haven’t tried it. Plenty of people are falling over. \n  \n🗞️ Costs: Gas\, Rental Gear\, Lift Tickets\, Food\, etc \nIt is recommended to purchase your ski lift tickets at least a few days beforehand\, as prices will usually get higher as the day gets closer. The ski resort also offers paid ski rentals for anyone who does not have their own gear\, although it is typically more affordable to get one-day gear rentals in Phoenix beforehand (such as at Ski Pro\, my personal favorite). Gas costs will be determined by your driver. Food and drinks are available to purchase at several locations around the resort\, although resort food can get expensive\, so bringing your own food/snacks is also an option. Snowbowl has multiple on-mountain dining locations. \n  \n⛅ Weather: Cold winter conditions – exact forecast TBD (Will update) \nThis year is forecasted to be a very strong El Niño\, which means the southwest is predicted to receive substantially more rain and snow. As the season progresses it will be even more obvious\, but for now\, just plan on a cold winter day. \n  \n🛣️ Itinerary: Subject to Change \nWe will be leaving Tempe at around 6AM and will arrive at Arizona Snowbowl around 9AM (when the resort opens). We will spend the day at the ski resort until it closes at 4PM. Then\, we will drive back to Tempe\, arriving around 7-8PM\, just in time to get ready for whatever Friday night plans you have. \n  \nNOTE: Because winter weather can affect road conditions and resort operations\, trip times and transportation plans are subject to change. Snowbowl Road may occasionally require chains or a 4WD vehicle during winter storms. When those restrictions are in effect\, Snowbowl also operates a shuttle from Fort Valley Lodge\, so do not worry if you have a 2WD like me.
