SUMMARY:Oregon Backpacking - Spring Break
DESCRIPTION:This trip will be a multi-day road trip and backpacking experience through California and Southern Oregon\, blending a few major city stops with some of the most scenic landscapes on the West Coast. We’ll break up the drive with stops in Los Angeles and San Francisco\, then continue north along the Pacific Coast Highway (US-101) into Oregon. While there\, we’ll explore coastal cliffs and beaches in the Samuel H. Boardman Scenic Corridor (the picture)\, hike the Trail of Ten Falls\, where you can literally hike behind the waterfalls\, backpack into the old-growth forests of Opal Creek Wilderness\, (here we’ll swim\, cliff jump\, and see some amazing waterfalls)\, check out some amazing views of Crater Lake National Park\, and finish with a proper night’s sleep and some real food nearby in the town of Klamath Falls (which has natural hot springs btw). SUMMARY:The Amazing Race to Big Sur
DESCRIPTION:Two teams/cars race in an epic battle of wits\, skill\, and luck. First to make it to Point Sur Lighthouse wins!  \n  \nTeams will start with 5 cards\, cards can be powers or debuffs to throw against your opponents. Every 50 miles teams will draw a new card. When one team is physically passing the other the team in the rear must successfully land a slice of American cheese on there opponent’s car to enact a heed to head battle. Teams will then pull off to a convenient location and face off in one of the many location specific dual. The winning team will get a 5 minute head start  \n  \nFirst to make it to the Point Sur Lighthouse wins! \n \n  \nIn the last hour of the day the team in the lead will find a camp and time how long it takes the trailing team to arrive. The next day the leading team will get this much head start.  \n  \nRough plan of phases/days  \n\nThe Desert: Tempe to Palm Springs \nLos Angeles Area: Palm Springs to San Luis Obispo\nThe Coast: San Luis Obispo to Big Sur \n\n  \nGame will last roughly 6-8th. 9th we will start the drive back making any cool detours. SUMMARY:Chiricahua National Monument Hiking\, Carcamping\, Stargazing
DESCRIPTION:Join us on a trip to the Chiricahua National Monument\, also known as the “Wonderland of Rocks\,” located in southeastern Arizona. We’ll leave Tempe at 8:00 a.m.\, set up camp\, and explore the area in the afternoon. The area is ideal for wildlife observation\, with populations of a wide variety of animals\, such as the rare Mexican spotted owl\, turkeys\, foxes\, and coatis. The Chiricahua Mountains are also renowned as stargazing location and home to some of the world’s largest telescopes. Since our trip is shortly after the new moon\, we will experience spectacularly dark night skies. DESCRIPTION:This trip will be a day hike to one of Arizona’s coolest spots. We’ll hike the Bob Bear Trail down to Fossil Springs\, where bright blue water flows through caves\, waterfalls\, and swimming holes. The hike is 8–9 miles round trip with ~1\,500–2\,000 ft of elevation gain and is moderate to difficult\, especially on the way back out. We’ll spend time swimming\, cliff jumping\, and exploring. The water is refreshing but pretty cold\, even on warm days. Be sure to bring plenty of water and sunscreen. After the hike\, we’ll stop in town for ice cream before heading home. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a hike up southern Arizona’s most distinctive peak pronounced “bah-boh-kwa-VEE-ree“. Sticking up 1000 feet or more above the surrounding mountains\, with its characteristic pyramid-shaped peak\, it beckons the curious. On a clear day\, it can be seen from over 100 miles away. \nThis mountain is a sacred place to the Tohono Oʼodham people so please treat this sacred place with a little extra respect. The reservation is generous enough to let people climb it for a permit fee of $10/person. \nBaboquivari is a challenging 9.5 mile 4\,100ft climb with class 3 scrambling towards the top. To reach the very top the last 100ft is proper rope climbing rated 5.4. However we likely won’t be able to do this as we don’t have the proper gear or experience. However the end of the trail is where most people turn around anyways. DESCRIPTION:Trip Overview\nCome explore a hidden gem in southern Arizona’s Chiricahua Mountains. We’ll depart Friday and car camp for two nights\, with a full day of hiking on Saturday and a shorter hike Sunday morning. This remarkable area features an incredible range of landscapes—from lush canyon forests framed by red rock cliffs to pine-covered mountains\, open grasslands\, and desert terrain. We’ll experience it all on this trip. \n  \nFriday\nThe early group will leave at 9:00 am\, drive the 4 hours to Cave Creek Canyon\, and set up camp. If 9:00 is too early\, other cars are free to leave later in the day. We will meet at 4:30 pm at the visitor center for a flat\, 3-4-mile walk to the main viewpoints in the canyon. \n  \nFriday Evening Walk \nSaturday\nWe will start hiking at 9:00 am and hike Silver Peak. This will be a hard 12-mile-long hike with 3\,000 feet of elevation gain. Humphries: 500 \nMunds Park: 500 \nPrescott: 500 \nIf 3+ teams: \nPayson: 500 \nStrawberry: 500 \nIf 4+ teams: \nWinslow: 400 \nWilliams: 400 \n  \nEvery region has challenges\, each challenge you complete buys you a stake in that region. \n  \nYour percent owned of a region = the number of stakes you own in a region/total stakes earned in the game by all teams in region \nThe AOC bucks from a region = Regions worth x percent you own \nWhoever has the most AOC bucks at the end of the game is the winner \n  \nexample: If you have 3 stakes in Payson\, and two other teams have 1 stake. SUMMARY:White Mountains Backpacking
DESCRIPTION:We’re headed on a beautiful backpacking trip to the White Mountains near Greer\, Arizona! This is an easy beginner’s backpacking trip on the eastern edge of Arizona\, with incredible mountain views and rivers along the entire trail. The trail is relatively short and flat\, and is a great backpacking trip for first-timers! We will leave Tempe from the ASU Performing and Media Arts Building in the Trader Joe’s parking lot at 8AM on Saturday. Then\, we will hike out 2.5 miles to the end of the trail\, setting camp near the river and enjoying a cozy night under the stars. It will be cold at night\, so bring several layers! On Sunday morning\, we will hike back to the trailhead then drive back to Tempe\, returning around 6PM. You can expect beautiful spring wildflowers\, wild strawberries along the trail\, and lots of crystal-clear water. DESCRIPTION:Get ready to channel your inner child as we slide and jump down Arizona’s natural playground! Salome Jug Is a canyon that resembles a water park complete with natural slides! Join us for an epic day of sliding and jumping down this hidden gem! \nTo start we hike 2.7 miles down to the canyon. Then we slide down the canyons natural water slides and cliff jump off the cliffs for about a mile. If the water is too low (and it likely will be) we will have to do a 25 ft rappel to get off the last cliff. No rappel experience or gear is needed this will be a good place to learn just be mentally ready for it. Then we’ll hike out of the canyon 2.3mi +900ft. We’ll spend the weekend exploring Point Lobos\, Big Sur\, Garrapata\, and the Monterey / Carmel area\, while keeping the trip as budget-friendly as possible by camping for free on BLM land at Williams Hill.
